My photography journey didn't start when I was 10 and given my first camera - nor was it started out of a passion ignited in college. It was early 2007, and our oldest child Lucas was 3 months old. My maternity leave was almost over and it was time for me to go back to my desk job. I really really didn't want to leave our baby, but my husband was wrapping up his last year of culinary school and we lived in one of the most expensive cities in the US. One afternoon, my husband Trei asked me what I would do instead and I casually responded "be a photographer." A few days later I quit my job and we drained our savings account of every single penny, investing in a Canon DSLR and a nice lens. We were young, broke and very free-spirited, what did we have to lose? I honestly thought the camera would do all the work. A few weeks into ownership, the harsh reality hit me, and I realized that if I wanted my photos to look anything like the phenomenal photographers I followed online - that I'd have to do way more than rely on my camera. After one year, a lot of books, a lot of googling, and A LOT of practicing - I took on my first paid client. Since then, I've photographed hundreds of weddings and thousands of sessions! But I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve made over the years. My circle of people to love has grown exponentially because of my job. I’ve had the great honor of not only watching people walk down an aisle and vow to love each other for the rest of their lives, but then I get to witness those vows in action. From weddings to newborn sessions to growing families and high-school senior sessions. Can you believe I’ve even gotten to the point of photographing weddings for adults that were once gap-toothed elementary-aged kids cheesing for my camera? It’s truly humbling!
What do I want you to know about me? I've been married for 17 years, and am the proud mom of Lucas (15), Olivia (13), Madelyn (11) and Grace (9). I'm a homeschooler and an Enneagram 9w1. I'm a lover of Jesus, a good vanilla latte, Instagram, listening to music 24/7, lazy days, shopping at Madewell, Grey's Anatomy, vacations, the smell of citrus, and documenting my families life!
I think happiness is a choice, life is an adventure, and it's important to always say "thank you" and "I love you". When I was in college, professors would ask me what I wanted to do with my life and I always answered enthusiastically, “be a mom!”. When a dream is placed in your heart, there is no escaping it. I have drive, determination and great critical thinking skills, and although being organized isn't my strength, I run my business with intention and (try to) keep my closets at home nice and orderly! I'm a glass is full and overflowing kind of girl - the eternal optimist! I'm super sentimental and love to use exclamation marks!! What can I say, I'm an excited person. My parents have been married for 43 years and I'm so inspired by their commitment and love. I can't cook, my husband can (no really! he graduated with a bachelors from culinary school!), and we're both free spirits.
I hope I get the chance to meet you in person, find out all the wonderful things that make you who you are, and ofcourse, to photograph the people that mean the most to you!
